Instructions

Spoon the condensed milk into the bottom of a small, clear glass without letting it touch the sides. Slowly pour the Licor 43 over the back of a spoon to layer it gently on top of the condensed milk. Gently float the hot espresso over the back of a spoon to create the third, darker layer. Carefully add the frothed milk over the back of a spoon to form the creamy top layer. Dust with ground cinnamon and place the lemon twist on the rim. Stir all layers together before drinking.

Histoire d'origine Barraquito

The Barraquito is the quintessential coffee cocktail of the Canary Islands, Spain. Its defining characteristic is the visual layering: condensed milk at the bottom, Licor 43, hot espresso, and a cap of frothed milk, finished with cinnamon and lemon peel. The drink is always stirred by the drinker before consuming, releasing all the aromas at once. It originated in Tenerife and is deeply embedded in Canarian coffee culture.
