Rye whiskey: Il rye whiskey è una varietà di whiskey statunitense. La base del rye whiskey negli Stati Uniti d'America è costituita per legge per almeno il 51% da segale (in inglese rye appunto) con aggiunta di altri cereali, mentre in altri paesi, come ad esempio il Canada, il rye whiskey può essere prodotto senza impiego di segale. Si presenta di colore biondo pallido con gradazione alcolica del 43%. Era particolarmente diffuso negli stati della Pennsylvania e Maryland, ma dopo il proibizionismo la sua produzione calò drasticamente diventando un prodotto di nicchia. Attualmente viene presentato nella scena europea della miscelazione, o della degustazione, un prodotto alternativo al bourbon per attitudini e ricette differenti quindi attribuibili a gusti differenti dai distillati di solo grano o malto. È l'ingrediente principale per la preparazione del cocktail Manhattan. Anche se originariamente l'ingrediente principale del cocktail sia il Canadian whisky la quale composizione non prevede l'uso della segale. Si presta ad un invecchiamento molto modesto in fusti nuovi e tostati internamente.
Amaro: Amaro (Italian for "bitter") is an Italian herbal liqueur that is commonly consumed as an after-dinner digestif. It usually has a bitter-sweet flavour, sometimes syrupy, and has an alcohol content between 16% and 40%. Similar liqueurs have traditionally been produced throughout Europe. There are local varieties in Germany (where they are called Kräuterlikör), in Hungary, the Netherlands, and France. But the term amaro is applied only to Italian products of this kind. Amaro is typically produced by macerating herbs, roots, flowers, bark, and/or citrus peels in alcohol, either neutral spirits or wine, mixing the filtrate with sugar syrup, and allowing the mixture to age in casks or bottles. Dozens of varieties are commercially produced, the most commonly available of which are Averna, Ramazzotti, Lucano, and Montenegro. Many commercial bottlers trace their recipe or production to the 19th century. Recipes often originated in monasteries or pharmacies. Amaro is typically drunk neat, sometimes with a citrus wedge. It may also be drunk on ice or with tonic water.
