Unire gli ingredienti in uno shaker colmo di ghiaccio. Agitare energicamente fino a quando la bevanda non è sufficientemente fredda. Filtra la bevanda nel bicchiere Cocktail freddo. Decorare con il/la Buccia d'arancia.

The Bronx is essentially a Martini with orange juice added. It was ranked number three in "The World's 10 Most Famous Cocktails in 1934" behind the Martini (#1) and the Manhattan (#2). In the movie "The Thin Man" 1934, the lead actor (William Powell) compared the methods for shaking the Manhattan, Bronx, and Martini.

Bill W., the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, said that his first drink of alcohol that he could remember was the "Bronx cocktail", given to him by a "socialite" at a party during World War I. This was the beginning of his addiction to alcohol.

Bronx origin story

Two sources credit Joseph S. Sormani as the person responsible for the drink.

The Bronx Cocktail, strange to say, was invented in Philadelphia, of all places! There it might have remained in obscurity had it not been for one Joseph Sormani, a Bronx restaurateur, who discovered it in the Quaker City in 1905. The original recipe has been greatly distorted in the course of years, but here is the original to guide you and to compare with the other recipes being used: Four parts of gin, one part of orange juice and one part of Italian Vermouth. Shake thoroughly in ice and serve.

Sormani was credited with creating the drink in his New York Times obituary:

Joseph S. Sormani, retired Bronx restaurateur, who was said to have originated the Bronx cocktail, died Wednesday night in his home, 2322 Fish Avenue, the Bronx, after a brief illness. His age was 83.

A proposito degli ingredienti

Gin: Il gin è una bevanda alcolica, solitamente incolore, ottenuta per distillazione di un fermentato ricavato solitamente da cereali o patate in cui viene messa a macerare una miscela di erbe, spezie, piante, bacche e radici: i botanicals (in italiano "botaniche"). Tra queste devono essere sempre presenti i galbuli di ginepro che caratterizzano il profumo e il gusto. Il nome del distillato deriva proprio da questa pianta.
